(The following is from a press release)
In partnership with the Westlake Village Art Guild (WVAG), the City of Agoura Hills is pleased to announce that it will be hosting the Guild’s Student Awards Juried Art Show for high school juniors and seniors. Seventy-six finalists will have their entries on view at the Reyes Adobe Historical Site gallery. The exhibit is included on the upcoming Conejo Valley Open Studio Tour.
The WVAG annual student show offers teens the chance to compete for and win cash awards to help pursue their artistic education and dreams. Show categories include 2-D Fine Art, 3-D Fine Art, Photography and Digitally-created works. It is open to the Greater Conejo Valley high school juniors and seniors, recognizing both dedicated art teachers and talented students who enrich the community through the visual arts. The City of Agoura Hills Cultural Arts Council (AHCAC) sponsored show is one of the most significant competitions of its kind in the region. Last year, 408 entries from 118 students were received for the competition.
The Student Art Show will be on the Greater Conejo Valley Open Studio Tour on Saturday, April 18, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition to the student gallery show, the tour will include over 150 artists residing in Agoura Hills, Westlake Village, Oak Park, Thousand Oaks and Newbury Park. Visitors may register and obtain maps for a self guided tour beginning at 9:30 am at the Agoura Hills Recreation and Event Center, 29000 Ladyface Court, Agoura Hills, CA 91301; www.reyesadobeartgallery.com. The tour is free. A complimentary breakfast will be served until 11:30 a.m. Registration and maps are also available at the Thousand Oaks Community Art Gallery, 2331-A Borchard Rd., Newbury Park, CA 91320, (805) 379-5655; www.toartgallery.com. Bus tours from both locations will be provided (routes to be determined).
The awards ceremony and closing reception for the student juried show is April 24, 2015, from 4-7 p.m, at the Reyes Adobe gallery. Guest speakers are Butch Hartman, creator of Nickelodeons’ hit series The Fairly Oddparents, and Maria McGinley, past winner of “Best in Show.” Along with the Agoura Hills mayor, the guest speakers will help present the 2015 awards–a minimum of 17 ribbon awards and $1,250 in cash prizes. The public is invited to attend the ceremony at the Reyes Adobe, 30400 Rainbow Crest Dr., Agoura Hills, CA 91301.
In addition to hosting the juried student show, AHCAC members Craig Morton and Priscilla Kromnick will serve as judges. One of the many goals of the AHCAC is to support and expand local cultural arts within the community and provide programs that showcase the many talented artists residing in the Conejo Valley.
