Bay Laurel Elementary School had a ribbon cutting ceremony Monday morning to celebrate the school’s new Little Free Library. Bay Laurel elementary school is the first school in the Las Virgenes Unified School District to participate in this national program.

Thanks to a generous private family donation, a little library box was installed at the front of the school where students can come take a book and leave a book for others at their leisure. The library is hand built by the family.

“The goal of the program is to enhance literacy, the joy of reading and the power of community,” said parent Alicia Weintraub. The box was creatively decorated and painted by Bay Laurel’s new principal, Jackie O’Sullivan.
