Fans of bestselling author Lori Lansens gathered at the Agoura Hills Recreation and Event Thursday evening to meet the author and purchase her latest book, The Mountain Story. The three-hour book launch reception was part of the City’s One City One Book program.
“I am honored to be a part of this and excited about sharing the book set in Southern California with this community that I love so much,” said Lansens, whose publisher permitted her to present it prior to the national release on June 30.
Mayor Illece Buckley Weber said she chose the book for this year’s program because of the story’s strong characterizations and is “thrilled” it’s become available to the community. “It puts Agoura on the map,” she said. “We really love authors and the arts and the cultural arts, and it’s very exciting to have Lori be a part of this.”
Resident Charlene Ross attended the event to support her friend. “She truly is one of my favorite authors,” said Ross. “I read [one of her other books] The Girls many years ago and met her afterwards. I couldn’t believe that this woman I met, this cool mom, was also this brilliant writer that I admired.”
A basket containing donated items, including Lansens’ books, was raffled off to help raise money for the City’s teen programs. According to Donna Conlin, recreation manager, the teen leaders from the rec center requested such literary items as text books, Kindles and computers.
The evening was capped off by a presentation by Lansens who read from and discussed her book before a rapt audience.
