Chamber Foundation Announces Non-Profit and Volunteer Honorees

The Greater Conejo Valley Community Foundation will host their annual Spirit of Community Awards on Thursday, May 29, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Agoura Hills Hotel. Bob Engler has been chosen as the 2014 Community Volunteer of the Year and Westminster Free Clinic as the 2014 Non-Profit Organization of the Year.

Bob Engler is a retired fire chief that has been a Thousand Oaks resident for over 20 years. He is an active member of Kiwanis and board member for Conejo Recreation & Park District’s Trails Advisory Committee while supporting many local nonprofit organizations including: Manna, Red Cross and Community Conscience. Bob is a beloved friend, coach and mentor throughout the community.

Westminster Free Clinic, the Non-Profit Organization of the Year, provides essential medical services to low-income residents. Their dedicated staff and army of volunteers includes: physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses and other medical professionals who volunteer their time at the clinic after their regular jobs. Additionally, the clinic has a high school internship program that is already helping to cultivate the next generation of health care providers.

Honorees that evening will also include: Teachers of the Year (CVUSD and LVUSD), U.S. Armed Forces, Fire Enforcement Agencies and Fire Protection Agencies.

Tickets to attend the Spirit of Community Awards are $35 per person and includes complimentary “tastings” by local eateries prior to the awards ceremony. Tickets are available online at www.conejochamber.org through Wednesday, May 28, 2014.
