Cal Lutheran Wind Ensemble Spring Concert

March 11, 2016 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

The program for California Lutheran University’s Wind Ensemble Spring Concert will range from classical music to modern dances to a jazz-inspired work.

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. March 11 in Samuelson Chapel on the Thousand Oaks campus.

The woodwind, brass and percussion musicians will perform a variety of works for concert band. The concert will open with the energetic, jazz-inspired “Shortcut Home” by Dana Wilson. Other compositions will include a transcription of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Prelude and Fugue in C Major VWV 553, the popular Second Suite in F by Gustav Holst and the lyrical “Song for Lyndsay” by Andrew Boysen. The 50-member ensemble will close the concert with a captivating set of gypsy dances titled “Puszta” by the Belgium composer Jan Van der Roost.

Michael Hart, an assistant professor of music and director of bands at Cal Lutheran, will conduct. The Moorpark resident teaches music theory, ear training and music education, and provides private lessons to all trombone, euphonium, and tuba students. As a tubist, he performs as a solo artist and frequently appears in chamber groups, symphonies and concert bands throughout Southern California. He is also active as an adjudicator, presenter and guest conductor throughout the state.

The concert is free, but donations will be accepted.

The chapel is located at 165 Chapel Lane.
