Friday


Family Float Movie NightCool off this summer with a fun night with your family!  Enjoy a movie on a big screen with pool floats and popcorn at the Cal Lutheran Community Pool.  Bring your whole family for a fun filled evening under the stars. Bring a picnic dinner – movie starts at dusk.  $6 per family.

Malibu Kiwanis Chili Cook-Off, Carnival and Fair: The 33rd Anniversary Malibu Kiwanis Chili Cook-Off, Carnival and Fair takes place on Labor Day weekend, August 29th to September 1st, 2014 at Civic Center Way and Stuart Ranch Road. Hours are 6-10pm on Friday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday/Sunday and  11 a.m.-8 p.m. on Monday. 

Used Book Sale at Newbury Park Library: The Friends of the Thousand Oaks Library will sponsor a Used Book Sale on Friday, August 29th and Saturday, August 30th. The event kicks off with an “early bird sale” for members of the Friends of the Thousand Oaks Library Friday, August 29th from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Memberships can be purchased at the door at that time. The public sale runs from 6-8:30 p.m. and continues on Saturday, August 30th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Newbury Park Branch Library.

Kids Fun Zone at Janss Marketplace: The Kids Fun Zone craft events meets the last Saturday of every month from 12-3 p.m. at the Janss Marketplace. Kids Fun Zone membership includes lifetime membership cards, free seasonal crafts (rain or shine, while supplies last, for ages 12 and under), merchant discounts and birthday gifts. The 2014 dates are Jan 25, Feb 22, Mar 29, Apr 26, May 31, Jun 28, Jul 26, Aug 30, Sep 27, Oct 25, Nov 29 and Dec 27. Signup online at www.janssmarketplace.net.

Evening Cultural Program at Satwiwa Native American Indian Culture Center: Kathy Willcuts and Steven Garcia will demonstrate and perform Native American dance, including Northern Traditional and shawl dancing. Bring layered clothing and a flashlight. All ages are welcome. For info: 805-370-2301

Star Parties Hosted by Oak Canyon Astronomy Group in Oak ParkOak Canyon Astronomy Group Star Parties are presented from 7-10 p.m. at Oak Canyon Park, 5600 Hollytree Drive in Oak Park and are free to the public. The mission of the group is to bring an awareness of amateur astronomy to the community by showing what they can actually see in the night sky. Upcoming dates in 2014 are June 21, July 19, August 2, August 30, September 27, October 18, November 29 and December 13. For more information, go to oakcanyonastro.com.

Youth Adventures Ages 2-7 at Rocky Oaks Park: Youth Adventures Ages 2-7 join a ranger exploring nature while learning about animals and plants. Reservations are required: 805-370-2384. 

Family and Kid’s Yoga: Come enjoy a healthy alternative and practice yoga with your kids or just drop them off! 1 hour fun- filled hatha yoga class for kids ages 6-12 and parents at Samadi Yoga Westlake Village. Family and Kid’s Yoga. Newcomers, mention Conejo Valley Happening and get one class free!

LABOR DAY

Labor Day Regatta at Westlake Yacht Club: Westlake Yacht Club is having their Frank Butler Regatta on Labor Day, Monday September 1, 2014, featuring live music and plentiful appetizers. The regatta honors our club member, Honorary Staff Commodore Frank Butler, who has contributed so much to Westlake Yacht Club as well as the sailing community. Mr. Butler who is the founder and owner of Catalina Yachts, was inducted into the National Sailing Hall of Fame in 2013.  

2014 Thousand Oaks Summer Concerts in the Park – Led Zepagain: A Tribute to Led Zeppelin: The Conejo Recreation & Park District presents its 2014 Summer Concerts in the Park series at Conejo Community Park, 1175 Hendrix Avenue, Thousand Oaks.
