The Miller Family YMCA is holding a free summer speaker series to improve health inside and out. Residents do not have to be a YMCA member to attend.
On July 26, speaker Timothy Smith, an author, speaker and family coach in Westlake Village will talk on the “Five Qualities of a Healthy Family.” Smith will discuss the five key components of a balanced and healthy home and simple habits that strengthen these qualities.
Smith will also speak August 2 on “The Relaxed Parent—Healing Your Kids–Do More As You Do Less.” He will talk about how parents can avoid spoiling their child and the actionable steps to raising a child to become a capable adult.
On August 9, “Calling all Women—You’re More Normal Than You Might Think!” is the topic of a talk by Dr. Dana Jennings. Jennings will explore the many unaddressed truths of the female body and current ideas on health and wellness.
On August 16, registered nurse Anthony Phillips will discuss “High Blood Pressure, Strokes and Heart Attacks.” With heart disease being the number one killer of both men and women in the United States, those attending will learn about the underlying causes of heart disease, treatment methods and prevention tips.
All talks are held on Sundays from 4-5:30 p.m. at the Miller YMCA (320 Via Las Brisas, Newbury Park). Free childcare is provided. No reservations are required. For more information, call Carol Benson at 805-498-8213. The program is hosted by Monte Vista Presbyterian Church and Preschool.
