Mikey, a handsome nine-year-old male Chihuahua/Terrier mix and Teeny Peanut, a cute 10-year-old female Chihuahua/Dachshund mix, have been together all their lives. Guess you could call them boyfriend/girlfriend or husband/wife. Whichever you choose, they are a couple made for each other. As a matter of fact, Teeny Peanut doesn’t seem to care for dogs other than Mikey.

This pair is the Mutt and Jeff of the small dog world, the big and small end of the spectrum. Teeny Peanut is shy around new people and may not like young children. Mikey is the athlete of the two, loving a good game of fetch with soft toys.

Here are some things you should know about them:

  • They are housebroken.
  • They both walk pretty well on leash.
  • They absolutely love to curl up in bed together.
  • They will do well in a home with a small yard.

What you should know is that their former owners brought them to the shelter because they said they were being “child aggressive.” So if you have young kids at home, then they just aren’t the right pups for you. They need mature folks who know that their breed can be a bit shy or scared and know to go a bit slow with them. However, they have had no problems or shown any aggression to the 100+ volunteers they have met at the shelter, all strangers: male, female, young and old.

One thing they really need is someone who will spend time with them and not leave them alone all the time. They need their people to pet them, to play with them, to love them, to make them a part of the family so they feel safe and secure.
