Crunchy, a dog that is reminiscent of Toto from the Wizard of Oz, is a male terrier mix that is approximately eight years old. Sadly, after many years of having his own family, he was brought to the shelter because they no longer had time for him. Unfortunately, Crunchy is not doing well in the shelter environment.

He does not like being cooped up in a kennel. He becomes noisy when a play yard by acting negatively to all the noise and activity on the other side of the fence. He ends up barking and behaving a little nutty to show his unhappiness.

But he is not a crazy dog, and if you like the way he looks and are willing to give him a chance, ask one of the volunteers to take him into the “real room” to meet him. When in there, where it is quiet and relaxed, he will sit with you on the futon and be the nicest, sweetest and quietest lap dog you’ve ever seen. Really, try it! He will just sit there, and appear happy to be on your lap, not a peep out of him.  Well, maybe a kiss or two!

Here are some things you should know about him:

  • He is housebroken.
  • When properly introduced, he gets along well with other dogs as well as cats.
  • He would do best in a home with mature kids.
  • He would do great with an older person–especially if they don’t get much company–a quiet home would be best for him.
  • He loves getting his exercise on a treadmill, although he has enjoyed playing with and chasing after a larger dog that is housed at the shelter.

He is really just a sweet misunderstood boy (given the craziness of shelter life) who is the perfect size for a house, condo or apartment. He is a darling guy who would make the perfect companion for anyone who wants to take life a bit slower just enjoying the two of you being together.
