(The following is from a press release)
Opening its doors on February 1, 1965, Round Meadow Elementary has become an important part of the Calabasas and Hidden Hills communities over the past 50 years. What was once a small neighborhood school for families in the Hidden Hills development has become a major staple in the field of education, molding the minds of thousands of children over the past five decades.
In honor of celebrating the past and looking toward the future, the Parent Faculty Association (PFA) of Round Meadow Elementary is hosting a Casino-themed gala that will be held on February 28, 2015 at the Agoura Sheraton Hotel. The event will be a way to commemorate this milestone with the parents of children who are either currently attending or have attended the school in the past, as well as alumni, faculty past and present and members of the community who value the impact Round Meadow Elementary has made over the years.
“The staff at Round Meadow and I are very excited to celebrate all that our school has accomplished over the past 50 years,” said Jeremy Resnick, Round Meadow principal. “This gala will be a wonderful opportunity for us to honor our past and look toward our future as we plan for improvements to our campus and the resources available to student.”
“At Round Meadow, the PFA, the staff, along with the administration, is intensely committed to working together with parents to provide the children with nothing but the best, said PFA President Jen Levinson. “At Round Meadow you are greeted with a smile and everyone is ready and willing to lend a helping hand. The goal is to ensure that each and every child develops to their fullest potential; academically, socially, and emotionally. Ask any child, and they will tell that they are excited and love to come to school. Ask any parent, and they will tell you that Round Meadow provides opportunities to enrich the children’s educational experience, encourage citizenship and courtesy, along with caring and sharing.”
When the school originally opened, there were about 300 students and 15 staff members. Expanding over the years, the school now is now home to nearly 600 students and over 60 staff members. The school boasts a fantastic art and music program and a commitment to thoughtful integration of technology as evidenced by the recent 1:1 initiative in which every third grader has a laptop computer to help them master the curriculum.
The school recently garnered some attention recently for its “Buddy Bench,” which was created as a manner in which students could help to foster new friendships. In the age of bullying, the “Buddy Bench” has encouraged students to reach out to unfamiliar faces and make a new friend, an example of the many positive messages the school reinforces with its students.
