It’s hard to believe that the first day of school is just around the corner. And preparing for it can be overwhelming for Conejo Valley students and parents alike. It means two things: stricter schedules and adapting to a new classroom, teacher, friends and academic challenges. These new experiences can bring stress with them, but the best you can do is make sure you are prepared and have all of the resources possible to succeed.
With a little planning and preparation, you can make going back to school simple and stress-free. Read the following tips to get yourself in gear for the new school year:
- Establish a nightly routine. Having a nightly routine can save you stress and aggravation each morning. Lay out your clothes for the next day and pack your book bag accordingly. You’ll save a lot of time in the morning and won’t feel as guilty when you sleep in an extra five minutes.
- Load up on school supplies. Consider what will last you for the entire school year. Sometimes it’s hard to predict ahead of time what school supplies certain teachers will require, but it never hurts to load up on the basics for the first week. Splurge on erasable pens and pencils, colored pencils, erasers, notebooks, a planner, printer paper, scotch tape, staplers, binders, loose leaf paper, and a calculator.
- Plan for healthy meals. Get creative with healthy ideas for breakfast and lunch. If you plan and gather what you need before the school week starts, you will be sure to have more nutritious meals during the week. Remember that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. If planned out, you can have enough time to eat a healthy breakfast and make it to school on time.
- Take advantage of sales on fall clothes. Go through your wardrobe and weed out what you don’t wear anymore or have outgrown. Donate gently used clothing and make room for your fall wardrobe. By reducing clutter, you will be able to get dressed quickly and easily.
