Strawberry Festival ‘Berry Blast Off’ Recipe Contest Semi Finalists Announced

strawberries_in_green_bowlThis year’s semi finalists for the “Berry Blast Off” contest were announced on April 11 by the chef committee participating in the preliminary rounds.
Those who submitted and were selected will gather at the professional kitchen of the Courtyard by Marriott in Oxnard May 6th to prepare their dishes for judges who will select two finalists to compete for the grand prize with a live demonstration in the Strawberry Promenade Saturday, May 17th at the Festival.
Top five recipes are:
  • Berry Sweet Potato Fingers with Special Berried Sauce (Debbie Sheesley-Deltoro of Oxnard)
  • Strawberry Spinach Salad with Grilled Cilantro Lime Shrimp, Peppered Glazed Pecans and Strawberry Balsamic Vinaigrette (Kate Evans of Oxnard)
  • Spicy Strawberry Five Spice Chicken Wings Appetizer (Linda Quan of Los Angeles)
  • Festive Strawberry Dumplings with Dreamy Ganache Sauce (Margaret Dykes of Oxnard)
  • Heartwarming Strawberry Crisp (Elizabeth Koseyan of North Hills)

The winning entrant’s prize will include a three-day, two night stay for two people at a Welk Resort in San Diego, Palm Springs, Cabo San Lucas, or Branson, Missouri. (airfare not included) and a Cutco studio knife set valued at close to $500.

Anyone who submitted an entry for consideration will receive a complimentary ticket to the 2014 California Strawberry Festival (limited to one person/one per family/one per residence).
