Screen Shot 2015-01-28 at 1.26.45 PMAs part of an ongoing commitment to provide resources and support for family caregivers of those caring for aging loved ones, Senior Concerns will present a community seminar on “Compassionate Conversations for Caregivers” on Tuesday, February 24, 2015, 5:30-7 p.m. at Senior Concerns, 401 Hodencamp Road, Thousand Oaks.

This informative seminar, led by Senior Concerns Senior Advocate Charna Posin, and Janine Jackson, MSW, ASW, Educator and Care Specialist with the Alzheimer’s Association. Attendees will gain an understanding of Alzheimer’s disease and how it effects communication, learn the skills of compassionate communication, and learn how to use communication to modify behaviors.

Charna is a Certified Senior Advisor and Patient Advocate. Life changing events, like helping her mother transition from living independently to assisted living and, at the same time caring full time for her husband, who was dying of cancer, caused Charna to reexamine her own life. She discovered that these experiences caused a shift in her career, from a background of specializing in disability income benefits for physicians, to her passion of Senior Advocacy. Janine has a Master’s Degree in Social Work and has worked with senior populations in both California and Kansas.

Seating is limited. To make a reservation, please contact Senior Concerns at 805-497-0189. Light refreshments will be served. A donation of $10 is requested to cover the cost of program materials.
