‘Unbroken’ Hero Named Grand Marshal of 2015 Rose Parade

Louis Zamperini, former Olympian runner, World War II hero and subject of the best-selling novel Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrandhas been named Grand Marshal of the 2015 Rose Parade, Tournament of Roses President Richard Chinen announced Friday, according to a report in the Pasadena Star News.

Unbroken was Agoura Hills’ “One City, One Book” selection for 2013. Zamperini spoke at two sold-out programs in May at the Regency Agoura 8 Theatre.

Zamperini, who grew up in Torrance and currently lives in Los Angeles, survived nearly seven weeks at sea, followed by a two years of torture as a Japanese POW after his plane crashed into the Pacific in May of 1943.

The Unbroken feature film, directed by Angelina Jolie, is slated for release on Christmas Day 2014.
