August is National Immunization Awareness Month, a period which coincides with local kids going back to school. According to California State law, your child must be fully vaccinated before entering the classroom.
“Vaccines are the most effective tools there are to prevent children from getting sick,” said Dr. Wilma Wooten, San Diego County public health officer. “When children are not vaccinated, not only are they at increased risk for disease, they can also spread illness to others in classrooms, households and communities.”
For easy reference, below is an immunization guide offered by the California Department of Public Health, which lists vaccines by age group.
