‘We Are The Future,’ A Concert to Benefit the LVUSD Performing Arts

(The following is from a press conference)

WeThe Las Virgenes Unified School District is proud to announce our fourth annual concert to benefit the performing arts. “We Are the Future” will be held on Friday, February 17, at 7 p.m. at the 650-seat, state-of-the-art Performing Arts Education Center on the campus of Calabasas High School (C-PAEC), 22855 Mulholland Hwy, Calabasas, CA, 91302.

This mosaic of music, theater and dance will feature as many as 150 middle and high school students from throughout the district, shining a spotlight on the future they imagine for themselves, their peers and the larger world that awaits them. The opening of the show will delight the audience with a dance number by middle and high school students to Coldplay’s “Fix You.” Other inspiring acts will include Calabasas High School’s film and music students collaborating in Louis Armstrong’s “Wonderful World,” and Agoura High students performing “A Night We’ll Never Forget” from “Carrie, the Musical.”

The historic fourth annual benefit concert will honor the extraordinary performing arts and educational
opportunities the district offers to students and community members throughout the area. This special
evening will help to generate necessary funds to support the vision for these theaters as thriving
performing arts hubs that reach, teach, challenge and inspire not only the students of Las Virgenes,
but also our community as a whole.

“We Are the Future” is produced by the performing arts staff at Calabasas High School. Theater
teacher Bill Garrett directs, in collaboration with Josh Barroll, Aaron Kohen, and Michael DaBach
(music), Kristin Furino (dance), Margie Selke (film), and Adrian Noak (stagecraft).

“We will be forever grateful to our community for passing the bond that allowed our professional quality
theaters to be built at Calabasas and Agoura High Schools and to realize our vision for the
theaters as a ‘beacon for the arts’ in our community,” said Superintendent Dr. Dan Stepenosky. “In
addition to the many fine student concerts and productions throughout the school year, the District is
very excited to present truly unique events for the enjoyment of the entire community. Our annual
benefit celebrates our theaters and our award-winning performing arts programs. It is our way of
sharing a very special evening with our donors, students, faculty and parents and community.”

All proceeds from “We Are the Future” will go to support the performing arts in the Las Virgenes
Unified School District and the Performing Arts Education Centers.
