This week we continue my series on planets in retrograde motion and their effects on us. In 2016, Mars takes its turn going retrograde. Mars goes retrograde every other year and lasts approximately eighty days. The red planet goes station retrograde on April 17th in Sagittarius. It turns direct on June 29th and re-enters Sagittarius on August 2nd.
Mars will have been in the sign of Scorpio in 2016 for 131 days over period of 18 weeks. This is noteworthy because Mars rules Aries and is the original ruler of Scorpio before Pluto was discovered in 1930. What is Mars? It is unabated energy and will have been in high energy Scorpio from January 4 to March 7 and again from May 28 until August 2. Because Mars is at home in Scorpio, it focused and contained, thus it is somewhat subdued.
Mars can be a troublemaker when it is retrograde. New plans may backfire or lose their drive to succeed. On the other hand, plans fail to happen at all. Mars retrograde is excellent for strategizing and planning but not for taking action. Mars retrograde is useful in going back over and re-working your projects. This is an excellent time to recharge your batteries. Get ready to launch when Mars moves direct.
When Mars is retrograde, it depletes the vitality so that it is never a time to initiate. When fiery Mars turns retrograde, it becomes “anti-fire.” With a new project, it can fizzle out like a dud firecracker and never really go anywhere.
With a new romance, it’s a quick honeymoon. The beginning is the hottest and it dies out quickly. During this period please don’t think the hottie you meet at the club is your future intended.
This is not a good time to pick a fight or initiate a lawsuit. In this case, the firecracker blows up in your face. Make the opposition go first. Matters commenced while Mars is retrograde will create frustration and disruptions until they finally flame out. At this time, people become irritated when activities do not run smoothly.
Those who have Aries or Scorpio prominent in their horoscopes are more affected by this shift in direction of their natural ruler. For Arians, they find themselves being less aggressive, less impulsive and less impatient to force their way in. Both Mars-ruled types find themselves more chilled and review matters in a more objective way. They feel more patient to wait on circumstances to unfold before they take action. These individuals may not recognize the anger they feel inside. They may express an unusual passiveness while under fire because they need too much processing time before they can retaliate instead of the typical Mars “ready, fire, aim’ behavior. Only when Mars turns direct can they move the Mars energy forward.
For those who are not ruled by Mars, it may feel quite differently. They may feel more impatient to force matters to a conclusion, to get a project going or to take immediate action. I would not recommend this. Remember, initiating or impulsively taking action will not work to your favor.
Because Mars retrograde subdues anger, it can create passive/aggressive behavior in some people. Or it causes complete internalizations of strong feelings which becomes depression.
My recommendation during Mars retrograde is THINK!
Have a great week,
