Friday

The Street Art Live: A monthly LIVE art event bringing some of SoCal’s best emerging artists forward. Walk along the atrium and watch artists create street art right before your eyes.

Comedian Carlos Mencia at the Canyon Club: The show begins at 8 p.m.

 Saturday

Family Swap Meet at Dos Vientos Center: Head over to the Family Swap Meet from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Come be a seller or come and shop! Families become aspiring entrepreneurs by selling art supplies, toys, sports equipment, books and additional items you no longer need or use.

California Strawberry Festival: The annual California Strawberry Festival takes place May 16 & 17 (always the 3rd weekend in May) at the Strawberry Meadows of College Park, 3250 South Rose Avenue, Oxnard.

Free Science Workshop Hosted by the National Park Service:The public is invited to attend a free science workshop May 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with guest lecturer Dr. Susan Mazer from UCSB. Attendees will learn how to contribute to a nationwide effort to track the effects of climate change on plants.

‘Out of the Attic’ Sale at the Stagecoach Inn Museum: Whether you want to sell your precious items or just enjoy doing a little shopping and visiting the many buildings representing Conejo Valley history, you will want to add this to your calendar.

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Event at Thousand Oaks Library:Tracy Newman with Charlotte Dean will kickoff 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten at a special event on Saturday, May 16 at 11 a.m. at the Grant R. Brimhal Library. Bring the little ones to enjoy music from musician and Emmy® Award-winner Tracy Newman who will perform selections from her album “I Can Swing Forever,” which she collaborated on with her daughter, Charlotte Dean, who designed an accompanying coloring book!

 

Sunday 

55th Annual Topanga Banjo-Fiddle Contest and Folk Festival: The 55th Annual Topanga Banjo-Fiddle Contest and Folk Festival on Sunday, May 17th at Paramount Ranch, 2903 Cornell Road, Agoura Hills features a main stage with over 100 instrumental and singing contestants competing for cash and gift awards, many professional bands, a dance barn with square dancing, clogging and other dancing to live music, jam sessions (bring your instruments), a children’s area, folk art and wares, great food, etc.

California Strawberry Festival: The annual California Strawberry Festival takes place May 16 & 17 (always the 3rd weekend in May) at the Strawberry Meadows of College Park, 3250 South Rose Avenue, Oxnard.

Matilija Poppy Festival at Conejo Valley Botanic Garden: Conejo Valley Botanic Garden will host its Annual Matilija Poppy Festival on Sunday, May 17th from 11-4 PM at the Kids’ Adventure Garden, located at 350 W. Gainsborough, Thousand Oaks, between the Oaks Mall, the mountains and the freeway and boasts magnificent views of the Conejo Valley. Families are invited to tour the 18-specialty gardens where they will see the showy white matilija poppy.

California Jazz and Wine Fest: Live jazz on two stages and unlimited sampling of wine, craft brews and boutique spirits are part of the 4th Annual California Jazz & Wine Fest, Sunday, May 17, 2015 from 1-5 p.m. at Thousand Oaks Community Park (2525 N. Moorpark Rd., Thousand Oaks).

Los Robles Children’s Choir to Perform “The Colors of Music“: Los Robles Children’s Choir (LRCC) presents “The Colors of Music” – a concert exploring a palette of musical sounds – on Sunday, May 17th at 4:00pm at Ascension Lutheran Church on Hillcrest Road in Thousand Oaks.
