Weekend Guide: Movie Tour, Free Concerts and a County Fair

Weekend Guide IconSo much fun, so little time!   Here are our Happening’s picks for the weekend and as always, don’t forget to check out our calendar daily for lots of fresh ideas. 

 

 

Friday

139th Annual Ventura County Fair: The fair features arts, crafts, food, exhibits, displays, demonstrations, farm animals, petting zoo, carnival rides, games and entertainment. More information at www.VenturaCountyFair.org. General Admission Prices: Adults (13 to 64) $12, Children 6-12 $9, Seniors 65 and older $9. Children 5 and under admitted free (well…as long as accompanied by an adult).

A Bit of Local History Walk at King Gillette Ranch: Gillette Ranch has been home to a variety of people and used for multiple purposes. Go for a leisurely stroll around the property and learn the history behind it. Meet by fountain at 2 p.m.

English Beat at the Canyon Club: Lead singer, songwriter and guitarist Dave Wakeling is not content to rest on his laurels and continues to tour worldwide as The English Beat, with an all-star ska backing band! The show begins at 9 p.m. Click here for ticket information.

 

 Saturday

 

Hit the Movie Trail: Join guide Brian Rooney on a fun and fact-filled 90-minute walking tour of movie sites in the park. Price of includes a signed copy of Rooney’s book Three Magical Miles and complimentary parking. Location is Malibu Creek State Park. Register online at www.agourahillsrec.org.

Second Saturday at the Adobe: Bring the family to the Reyes Adobe in Agoura Hills for arts & crafts, ages 3-8, from 1:30-3:30 p.m.

Saturday in the Park- ‘Super Soul Band Featuring Durrell Coleman’ Concert: The performance begins at 7 p.m. at Berniece Bennett Park, 31800 Village Center Road, Westlake Village. Food is available for purchase beginning at 6 p.m.

 

Sunday 

Free Concert at Peter Strauss Ranch: Blue by Morning (acoustic rock) and Quiet Violence (rock, folk and symphonic numbers) will perform at 3 p.m., followed by the Cartucho de Villa from 4:15 to 5:30 p.m. Peter Strauss Ranch is located at 30000 Mulholland Hwy in Agoura Hills. Free Series on Strengthening Marriages and Family Relationships: Monte Vista Presbyterian Church in Newbury Park, along with the Miller Family YMCA, is presenting a free Summer Speaker Series focusing on strengthening families and marriages. The series began July 13 and will continue the next 5 Sundays, ending on August 17.  The seminars are held from 4 to 5:30 pm at the Miller Family YMCA, located in the Village at Dos Vientos, 320 Via Las Brisas, Newbury Park. Sun Sets Summer Concert Series on Sunday Nights at Calabasas Lake: OCTAVIO FIGUEROA Y LA COMBINACION (Latin Music and Dance Night) headlines this weekend’s 2014 Summer Sun Sets Concert Series at Calabasas Lake at 6 p.m.The traditionally private Calabasas Lake opens its doors to concert goers, providing a scenic backdrop and ample field seating for picnickers.
