New Westlake Village Salon Gets to the ‘Root’ of Hair Care

It’s an issue most women…and men…of a certain age face as they get older–graying hair. No matter how diligent we are with our grooming habits and hair coloring, those straggly gray roots always manage to rear their ugly heads long before we are ready to go back to our hair stylist for maintenance.

Laura Lloyd said she found that to be a constant problem. “Something happens as you get older,” said the Westlake Village resident. “You notice a few random gray hairs at your root and around your hair line and you wish they would just disappear. Not only are these gray hairs a reminder of aging, but a mental note that you have to find time in your busy schedule to make an appointment at a salon and spend a pretty penny to cover those gray hairs up.”

A successful finance and business operations executive with more than 20 years of experience, Lloyd noticed that, in spite of the proliferation of blow dry bars, there weren’t any fast-service salons that offered root touchups. “All I wanted was a place where I can go to keep my hair color looking fresh and restored in between seeing a stylist for a haircut,” she said.

In 2010, Lloyd received a haircut from Guy Matthew Dee, former owner of Guy Matthew Salon and Day Spa in Agoura Hills, and there was an instant professional connection. After Dee decided not to renew his lease for the Agoura salon, he and Lloyd formed a business partnership and developed the idea for Rootementary. A modern, unique hair-coloring salon, Rootementary is dedicated to providing exclusive color treatment and maintenance for all customers at a modest price point, in a premier salon environment. “As a team, we are focused on providing first-class, consistent customer service that is not only affordable, but convenient as well,” said Lloyd.

The salon offers its clientele a complete menu of services from which they may select anything from a quick, one-hour root touch-up to a full head of color to a complete set of highlights.
“We are branding a new salon concept; no cuts, just color renewed in between your stylist appointments,” said Dee.

The service also replaces the mess and hassle of dying out of a box. “Our colorists will make sure each customer’s look and experience is fantastic before they check out,” said Lloyd.

The whole process is timed and streamlined, according to Dee. Each pre-scheduled customer consults with a colorist. Using a tablet/IPAD, he or she will discuss all of the available color options. Once the customized color service(s) has been determined, their specific color order will be processed.

The customer then goes through a series of stations, from color application to the luxurious “processing lounge,” where they can relax and enjoy healthy snacks. “Once the customer is finished processing, the applicator staff will provide them with our signature relaxing scalp massage and rinse,” said Dee. “The colorist will ensure that each customer’s color and overall experience are fantastic before they check out.”

Rootementary opens to the public on October 14. A ribbon cutting ceremony, hosted by the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce, takes place on Thursday, Oct. 15, at 4:30 p.m. Catered by Zin Bistro, the event will feature pass-around champagne, h’orderves and fresh juices from Juice Ranch.

Rootementary is located at 2900 Townsgate Rd., Ste. 100, Westlake Village. For more information or to book an appointment, go to http://rootementary.com/.
