Andre the Giant in Agoura: Is it Art?

This image of Andre the Giant mysteriously appeared on an Agoura Hills water tank in September and was later removed after residents complained to the city about the “graffiti.” Shepard Fairey’s iconic sticker graffiti from “Obey the Giant” has popped up around the world and has become part of his “world propaganda” movement.  A renowned artist and illustrator, he is also know for creating the Barack Obama “Hope” poster in 2008.

On his website, Fairey offers his philosophy as well as sells merchandise featuring clothes, prints and jewelry.

Did you see the image on the water tank? What are your thought? Is Fairey’s work art or merely a unique form of advertising? Weigh in in the comments section.
