Moorpark Presbyterian Church presents timely sermon series

What do Star Wars and God have in common? That intriguing question will be explored beginning Sunday, January 10, at Moorpark Presbyterian Church during the 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. worship services.

“The simple answer is, ‘More than you might think,’” said Pastor Mark McIlraith. “The Star Wars movies have captivated multiple generations of moviegoers because, as with all good stories, there is deep truth hidden in them. They reflect our need for a savior, our desire for connecting deeply, our longings for which we were created. All of those point to God.”

Each Sunday for five weeks, McIlraith will delve into scripture to respond to the themes and questions raised by films. He notes that some people don’t ‘get’ church but they do ‘get’ Star Wars, adding, “This is a way to open the discussion.”

Part of that discussion will include the differences between the impersonal ‘Force’ of the movie series and the deeply personal God of the Bible. As McIlraith states, “That is a ‘Force’ worth getting to know.”
