Dole Foods has pledged an additional $1 million to develop an interactive computer center and café within the first floor of the new Triunfo YMCA already under construction in Westlake Village. The donation is an added boost to efforts underway to meet the funding goals to create a new public park within the City of Westlake Village and a state of the art YMCA, according to Triunfo Y Executive Director Ronnie Stone.
The Dole Interactive Learning Center will allow parents, youth and seniors to participate in fitness activities, receive nutritional guidance and access wellness education online at the Y. In addition, the 60,000 sq. ft. YMCA will house a warm water therapy pool, an eight-lane lap pool, a basketball gymnasium, fitness center, activity rooms and a 5,000 sq. ft. multipurpose/event center.
“Dole Foods and its owner and chairman David Murdock have been at the forefront of the majority of all our community activities and charitable projects over many years,” said Stone. “We continue to be incredibly grateful for Mr. Murdock’s mentorship and genuine eagerness to see this 30 acre site developed into a welcoming and nurturing family environment for the entire community to enjoy His financial generosity will be cherished for many generations to come, and his leadership is extraordinary.”
The project also received a $100,000 grant from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation. “The foundation recognizes the effort we are making to build unity in the community, and to design a gathering place that educates and encourages social responsibility for our youth. We appreciate its very generous donation,” said Stone.
The partnership of the City of Westlake Village and Triunfo YMCA is still seeking leadership gifts from businesses and individuals. Five-year gifting pledging options are available. Individual site visits can be arranged by contacting Ronnie Stone at 818-707-9622, [email protected]mca.org.
