16th Annual YMCA National Day of Prayer Breakfast Set for May 7
May 7, 2015 @ 7:00 am - 9:00 am$20
Howard Wennes, former interim president of Cal Lutheran University (CLU), is the keynote speaker for the Southeast Ventura County YMCA’s 16th Annual National Day of Prayer Breakfast, Thursday, May 7. Breakfast will be served at 7:00 a.m. with the program running from 7:30-9 a.m. at CLU’s Gilbert Sports Center in Thousand Oaks. The theme for the morning is ““Lord, Hear Our Cry.”
“The national day of prayer is a dynamic witness that there are millions in our country who still are connected to God’s priorities for us and believe in the enabling power that God gives us to pray and serve,” says Wennes.
Wennes also served as a bishop of Grand Canyon Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and as pastor at Ascension Lutheran Church in Thousand Oaks. “I believe our being together is a way by which God’s spirit is at work giving us encouragement,” he says. “Hopefully, we are also encouraged to hear the cries around us and pay attention to the great needs beyond our borders. I pray not only God bless America, but God bless the whole world and use America to do it.”
Spiritual and community leaders will participate in the event. Providing invocators will be Colleen Cason, Ventura County Community Foundation and longtime columnist at the Ventura County Star, Matt Elam, Monet Vista Presbyterian, Pastor John King, Calvary Community Church and Curtis Anderson, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Thousand Oaks Stake.
“It is an honor for the Southeast Ventura County YMCA to facilitate the prayer breakfast for the 16th year,” says Janice Wise, public relations and development director of the Southeast Ventura County YMCA. “The planning committee worked tirelessly to create an event that we feel is a blessing for all people of faith.”
Mary Olson, general manager at KCLU-FM, will be the master of ceremonies and Lynn Rd., a contemporary Christian group from St. Paschal Baylon Church in Thousand Oaks, will provide musical entertainment.
