Janss Marketplace to Host Hanukkah Festival

December 6, 2015 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Thousand Oaks Chabad Jewish Center first night of Hanukkah candle ceremony on Sunday, December 6 from 4 – 6 p.m.

Temple Etz Chaim fourth night of Hanukkah candle ceremony on Wednesday, December 9 from 6 – 8 p.m.

Janss Marketplace is unique in the shopping center industry to host the Family Hanukkah Festivals. The annual Hanukkah celebration at Janss Marketplace draws hundreds of people, including non-Jewish attendees, who come to the illumination of a giant Menorah Candelabrum at the shopping center, located off the Moorpark exit on the 101 Freeway at the intersection of Moorpark Road and Hillcrest Drive in Thousand Oaks.

Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights, is an important eight-day Jewish holiday celebrated with the illumination of a candelabrum, the nine-branched Menorah, on the first day of Hanukkah, with one additional branch lit each day until the final illumination on the eighth night.

The Chanukah Family Festivals at Janss Marketplace begin with the celebration of the first night of Hanukkah on Sunday, December 6 from 4 – 6 p.m. The Thousand Oaks Chabad Jewish Center will host the event with traditional Jewish music and food, including sizzling hot latkes (potato pancakes). The free entertainment will include kids craft activity and face painting. Bring cameras to photograph the illumination of the giant 18-foot Menorah nine-branched candelabrum at 5 p.m. Visit www.JewishTO.org/chanukah or call the Thousand Oaks Chabad Jewish Center at 805.493.7776 for more information.

The Chanukah Family Festivals continue on Wednesday, December 9 from 6 – 8 p.m. The Temple of Etz Chaim will host the festivities to celebrate the fourth night of Hanukkah. In addition to the candle illumination ceremony, entertainment will feature Temple Etz Chaim (TEC) Religious School students, under the direction of Hazzan Pablo Duek and Rabbi Spiegel, singing Hanukkah songs to engage the audience. The TEC’s Men’s Club will serve latkes and hosts will give guests Dreidel game pieces and chocolate gelt (coins), used symbols of Hanukkah activities.

The illuminated Menorah will remain at Janss Marketplace through the last day of Hanukkah on Monday, December 14. Visit www.janssmarketplace.net to learn more about the Family Hanukkah Festivals and other holiday activities at Janss Marketplace.
