Medicinal Plant Walk in Calabasas
May 7, 2016 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am
Huge crowds at our medicinal plant walks in February have prompted another round scheduled for next month. Professor Jim Adams, Ph.D, of the USC School of Pharmacy, will again lead walks on Saturday, May 7.
Adams is trained in Chumash healing and will present traditional recipes for making healing medicines. As co-author of Healing with Medicinal Plants of the West, he will be available to sign the book, which features dozens of native plants found in the Santa Monica Mountains like black sage (used in relieving arthritic pain), elderberry (aids curing colds, flus, and fevers), and even poison oak (for those lucky enough not to develop a rash, it can address warts, among other skin problems).
Reservations are required and are available for the 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. walks (the 11 a.m. slot is booked full). To reserve a spot, contact the Western National Parks Association, the event’s co-sponsor, at 805-370-2302 or email [email protected]
The walks will be held at the Santa Monica Mountains Interagency Visitor Center, located at King Gillette Ranch, 26876 Mulholland Highway, Calabasas.
