PLOT SUMMARY: In witty, smart and hilarious Steve Martin fashion, Picasso at the Lapin Agile imagines what might have happened if Picasso and Einstein had met in a Paris cabaret in 1904. At around 25 years of age, neither has attained their genius- but both are solidly confident in the direction they are taking in life. A diverse cast of supporting players adds to the whimsical hilarity as they discuss daily activities (like sex…and sex ) as well as the 20th century and all it might bring. As Steve Martin has said “…the play attempts to explain, in a light-hearted way, the similarity of the creative process involved in great leaps of imagination in art and science.
