Pierce Brothers Candlelight Service of Remembrance
December 4, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks-Griffin Memorial Park, a local Dignity Memorial® provider, will host its annual non-denominational Candlelight Service of Remembrance on December 4. This annual tradition brings community members together to reflect on and remember their loved ones who are no longer with us. The service will start at 6:00 p.m. in Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks-Griffin Mortuary’s Chapel of the Oaks at 5600 Lindero Canyon Rd. in Westlake Village, 91361. The service is open to everyone in the community and no reservation is needed.
Additionally, Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks is a collection location for the U.S. Marine Corps “Toys for Tots” drive. This event collects new, unwrapped toys during each year, and distributes those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community in which the campaign is conducted. New, unwrapped toys can be brought to the office at any time through December 21, or delivered before the candlelight service.
“For most of us, the holidays are a joyous time, filled with family, friends and memories. However, they can be especially difficult after the loss of a loved one,” said Tamara Eacker, general manager, Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks-Griffin Mortuary. “Our annual Candlelight Service of Remembrance provides support to the recently bereaved whose feelings of loss can be amplified during this season.”
The Candlelight Service of Remembrance will be led by Rabbi Michael Lotker from the Jewish Federation of Ventura County and Deacon Jerome Bettencourt from St. Jude Catholic Church. Cantor Marc Bachrach, harpist Peggy Skomal and The Village Voices Chorale, led by Gloria Hilliard, director, will provide the music. The service will include a video tribute and a candle lighting ceremony where families will be invited to light a candle in honor of a loved one lost this year. Refreshments will be served following the service.
Beginning November 28, Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks will display a “Tree of Remembrance” in their lobby. Community members are encouraged to bring a photo or other memento to hang on the tree with the ornament provided by Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks. The tree will be in the lobby until December 26th at which time residents may pick up their ornament and take it home as a gift from Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks.
