Senior Concerns to Present Free Seminar on New Uber Services for Seniors and Family Caregivers
January 19, 2016 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
On Tuesday, January 19 at 5:30 p.m., Senior Concerns will present an informative seminar on UberASSIST and UberWAV, two new on-demand transportation services offered by Uber Technologies, Inc. to help meet the need for private, door-to-door transportation options for seniors and family caregivers in Ventura County. The seminar will take place at Senior Concerns, 401 Hodencamp Road in Thousand Oaks. Reservations are requested and can be made by calling 805-497-0189. Light refreshments will be served.
UberASSIST is designed to provide additional assistance to seniors and people with disabilities. Driver-partners with UberASSIST are specifically trained by Open Doors Organization to assist riders into vehicles and can accommodate folding wheelchairs, walkers, and scooters. UberWAV connects riders with vehicles that are equipped with ramps or lifts. Both services are available to riders in Ventura County through the Uber app, which can be downloaded for free via iTunes store or Google Play.
“Uber’s technology increases the mobility, efficiency and freedom of our riders and drivers with accessibility needs,” said Uber spokesperson Michael Amodeo. “We look forward to working with Senior Concerns to bring the same innovative and solutions-based focus to addressing accessibility in Ventura County that we bring to improving mobility options for people across the world.”
With Uber, a senior or family caregiver can push a button on a smartphone to request a ride that arrives within minutes. Riders can use Uber to go to doctor’s appointments out of the area, run errands, get to the airport, etc. “We are truly excited about this new Uber program and the benefits it brings to seniors and family caregivers,” Gallagher added.
The seminar will answer important questions such as how exactly UberASSIST and UberWAV work, how to access both services using a smart phone app, and what the fee structure will be for both programs.
