Senior Helpers and Senior Concerns Partner To Offer Free Memory Screenings
November 4, 2015 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Senior Helpers and Senior Concerns are partnering to present free Memory Screenings on Wednesday, November 4, 2015, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m . at Senior Helpers’ office, 31255 Cedar Valley Drive, Suite 303, in Westlake Village. Reservations are required and may be made by calling Senior Helpers at (805) 497-8370.
Memory screenings make sense for anyone concerned about memory loss or experiencing warning signs of dementia; whose family and friends have noticed changes in them; who believe they are at risk due to a family history of Alzheimer’s disease or a related illness; or who want to see how their memory is now and for future comparisons. The screening will take approximately 10 minutes, and is the first step toward finding out of a person may have a memory problem.
It is estimated that one in eight has Alzheimer’s disease, and nearly have of people age 85 and old have the disease. By 2050, as many as 16 million Americans will have Alzheimer’s disease.
“A simple memory screen provides a safe, cost-efficient intervention that can reassure the healthy individual, promote successful aging, and when indicated, direct individuals to appropriate clinical resources,” according to Andrea Gallagher, President of Senior Concerns. “We encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity to get screened.”
National Memory Screening Day and the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America’s year-round Community Memory Screenings program are part of the AFA’s national initiative to promote early detection and intervention for those concerned about memory loss, as well as to educate the public about successful aging.

About Senior Helpers
Based in Westlake Village, Senior Helpers provides in-home care and care management. One of Senior Helpers’ signature programs is Senior Gems, which helps caregivers assess and provide care for seniors with Alzheimer’s and dementia. It is a method for identifying the characteristics of aging, from normal aging through the early and late-stage dementia with which many seniors are now facing. This classification system allows trained Senior Helpers caregivers to identify the characteristics of different stages of dementia and understand what a person can still do based on a gem level and using specific strategies to care for our seniors. Additionally, the Senior Gems® program enables Senior Helpers to create the best plan for caring for the individual long term.
