YMCA branches in the Conejo and Simi valleys are offering free diabetes screening during November as part of Diabetes Awareness Month.
According to the American Diabetes Association, nearly 30 million children and adults in the U.S. have diabetes, with another 86 million having prediabetes and who are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes (the most common form). A registered nurse will be on hand at the YMCA branches in November to screen individuals to gauge their risk of developing the disease.
The nurse will be at these locations and dates: Simi Valley Family YMCA (3200 Cochran St., Simi Valley), Sunday, November 8, 10 a.m. to noon, Conejo Valley YMCA (4031 N. Moorpark Rd. Thousand Oaks), Sunday, November 15, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Miller Family YMCA (320 Via Las Brisas, Newbury Park), Sunday November 22, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
On Monday, November 16, all three YMCA branches will be providing healthy snacks and information about diabetes prevention in their lobbies.
