(The following is from a press release)
Free water fitness classes are now available to the community at the Miller Family YMCA of Newbury Park. No YMCA membership is required.
Participants receive a low-intensity, low-impact workout with different movements aimed at increasing flexibility, strength and cardiovascular ability. “The classes are very beneficial to seniors,” said Katie Beck, Miller YMCA executive director. “Exercise can often extend our lifespan, but for many seniors, they run the risk of falling or suffering a joint injury as they remain active. These classes increase mobility and independence. For those on a fixed income, they are especially attractive.”
The water fitness class is sponsored by the Los Robles Volunteer Program and Newbury Park Physical Therapy. Additional funding comes from donations received through the YMCA Annual Support Campaign.
Classes are ongoing. No need for reservations. Just bring or wear a bathing suit and bring a towel. Classes take place Mondays and Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. to 1:50 p.m. in the indoor heated pool at the Miller Y (320 Via Las Brisas, Newbury Park). For more information, call 805-480-0309.
