Terror House Continues to ‘Reign’ in Thousand Oaks for 15th Year

Imagine facing every one of your phobias in one bone chilling night! That’s what Bruce Stanton hopes you’ll do when you take a tour through his creation, Reign of Terror Haunted House, located at Janss Marketplace for the past 15 years.

Opening this Saturday, those who dare to enter the 70-room, 12,000-square-foot space (above Gold’s Gym) will experience their greatest fears in six themed areas, including “Miner’s Revenge,” “Blood Manor,” “The Ayslum” and the new “Quarantine”(a bio-warfare nightmare), according to Stanton, who used to give elaborate and scary Halloween tours through his own Thousand Oaks home for eight years before moving to the current location.

“Janss donates the space to us, and it is permanent,” said Stanton, who works on it year round. All profits from ROT go to youth programs at the Conejo Recreation and Park District.

Stanton has designed, built and expanded the attraction himself over the years. “I love Halloween, and it’s for a great cause,” he said.

He has a cast and crew of 40 people who help him scare the living daylights out of visitors but recommends that young people who frighten easily or are below the age of 12 attend one of the two “lights on” versions on Saturday afternoons.

The frightful attraction contains Hollywood-like sets, 18 animatronic characters, and live actors plus special sight, sound and scent effects. It takes about 20 minutes to get thru ROT, Stanton said.
