(The following is from a press release)
Rides and Rods, a one-day event to benefit local military veterans, will be held Saturday, October 8 in Thousand Oaks. The day begins with a “Poker Run” for cars and motorcycles that will wind its way through the Conejo Valley. It will be followed, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., by a motorcycle and car show, live music, vendors and food trucks at the Thousand Oaks Inn parking lot (75 W. Thousand Oaks Blvd.). Supporting the event are Rolling Thunder CA-1 and the Rotary Club of Newbury Park.
“Rides and Rods will raise money to help our local veterans,” said Mary-Catherine McBride, event co-chair. “The funds will go to organizations that assist with veteran job training and placement, health issues and mobility needs. We want to keep everything we raise local.”
Motorcycle and car participants in the “Poker Run” visit five checkpoints around the Conejo Valley collecting a playing card at each stop. Prizes will be awarded to those with the best (and worst) poker hands. The run begins at 7:30 a.m. at the Thousand Oaks Inn with breakfast and last minute registrations with the official start at 9 a.m. The cost is $40 per vehicle. Additional car or motorcycle passengers can enter the poker contest for $25 apiece.
Besides the car show, Rides and Rods will include performances by country rockers the Ry Bradley Band at 11 a.m. and Fan Halen, rated the number one Van Halen tribute band, at 2 p.m. Admission is free.
Check-in time for car and motorcycle show entries is 9-11 a.m. The fee to enter a car or motorcycle in the show is $25. Winners from the Poker Run and the car and motorcycle show will be announced at 3 p.m.
