(The following is from a press release)
The Conejo Valley YMCA is hosting its 10th Annual Turkey Day Dash on Thanksgiving morning, November 27. The 5K run/walk and 1K family fun run/walk begins and ends at the California Lutheran University campus in Thousand Oaks. The races are short enough so participants can make it home in time to prepare for a Thanksgiving gathering.
More than 3,000 runners and walkers take part in the event each year, making it one of the largest run/walk events in the Conejo Valley. The 1K family fun run/walk starts at 8 a.m. and the 5K run/walk follows at 8:30 a.m. Proceeds go towards providing financial assistance for youth, families and seniors so they can take part in YMCA programs.
“The proceeds from this event will make a meaningful, enduring impact right in our own community. The race is also about taking part in a healthy, positive event with family and friends,” said Zak Howell, Conejo Y program director.
All ages and abilities are encouraged to participate. Fruit and water will be provided. Professional timing is available for 5K runners. Awards will be handed out to the fastest runners in 15 age and gender categories—including those runners as young as age nine and under to runners age 76 and up. New this year is a costume contest for all participants. The top three winners will receive prizes.
Online registration is $30 for individuals and $70 for families (immediate family only—up to six people). To register online, go to www.turkeydaydash.org. In-person registration will be available at Road Runner Sports (1714 Newbury Rd., Newbury Park) on November 25 and 26 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for $35 for individuals and $80 for families. All those who have registered online and in person can pick up their race t-shirts (while supplies last) and timing bibs on those days. Day-of-race registration takes place at the old CLU football stadium from 7-7:45 a.m. and is $45 for individuals and $100 for families.
Major sponsors for the event are CLU, Road Runner Sports, The Oaks, the Acorn Newspapers, Thousand Oaks Rotary, Raymond James and Edward Jones.
