This Week in Astrology With Nick Newmont: Oct 20-26, The Sun in Scorpio, Oct 22-Nov 21

by Nick Newmont

This week we take a break from the political circus to simply looking at the movement of two key planetary positions: the Sun–how and where we direct our consciousness–and Venus, our approach to love and passion.

The Sun moves into Scorpio on October 22nd at 4:34pm PDT.

When the Sun transits Scorpio the main theme is passion. Scorpio brings out what we desire. Scorpio is the sign of depth, intimacy, pressure and extreme feelings. Libra’s superficiality passes, which does not satisfy the Sun in Scorpio. We have the desire to get to the bottom of matters as Scorpio brings out the detective in all of us. Mediocrity does not satisfy either as there no middle ground with Scorpio. All that is occult: hidden, secret or suppressed, intrigues us. In Libra, we strived towards perceived balance. Scorpio’s intensity does not concern itself with balance or fairness. Scorpio’s seductive energy is provocative, usually in a subtle way, as well as passionate and strong-willed. Scorpio knows what it wants and sets the intention that it already has it. Under Pluto’s rule, this can be a highly healing and transformative time. Envy, vengefulness, not letting go, and being manipulative are some of the more negative aspects of Scorpio.

Venus moves into Sagittarius from October 18-November 11.

Venus was in in the sign of Scorpio from September 23rd until October 18th. Over the past month did you experience your personal/romantic relationships to be more intense and heightened than usual? Venus in Scorpio brought out the best and the worst in romantic relationships, as an all or none condition, with some jealousy, possessiveness and competitiveness thrown into the soup. Well, with Venus moving from Scorpio to Sagittarius, romantic energy shifts from intense to playful, taking into consideration Sagittarius is a fire sign, therefore there is some heat.

However, Sag’s energy here is more relaxed. Scorpio is most concerned with, well, let’s just say it, sex with a specific person. The Sagittarius approach to love is a broader kind. Romantic adventures, as well as a straightforward–even blunt–approach to love, are on the agenda. Gone are the intricacy and complexity of the Scorpion’s plan to sting. Venus in Scorpio means setting your sights on someone and consuming them. Lofty love and the archer firing the arrow across the sky are things that take priority with Sagittarius. Venus in Sagittarius is playfully making love on a blanket at a picnic and enjoying them.

With the Sun in Scorpio and Venus in Sagittarius, I advise taking the 60’s Hippie approach, Make love not war…wherever!

Have a better romantic month.
