It’s Valentine’s Day! And President’s Day Weekend! Oh, so much time to hang out with your loved ones with added extra time to fight and whine… Right. You may need find something to do with all that “bonding time.”
Here are my top 5 picks for family activities in LA this weekend:
Free Museum Monday Various Locations
Lucky for you, it’s a great day to explore some of your local museums that are holding free events in honor of the old dudes.
The Ronald Reagan Library has founding father fun from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at their Simi Valley location. Music, storytelling, presidential lookalikes and other fun activities are all free and open to the public. Just be aware, there is a fee if you want to go in the museum to visit their other amazing exhibits.
LACMA is free and open to the public from 11 a.m. 5 p.m. They are offering bilingual tours, performances, programs and even a UKULELE PLAYER. Seriously, that’s fun stuff.
The Autry Museum is also free, open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and offers country flavored fun like panning for gold and making your own green-screen cowboy movie.
Let’s make President’s day special! It’s what Washington would have wanted…

Whale Weekend Santa Monica
Head to the Heal the Bay’s Santa Monica Pier Aquarium between 12:30-5 p.m. on Saturday or Sunday, February 14-15, for themed activities and whale watching fun. Naturalists will be out on the pier helping you catch a peek and answer questions. It’s $5 for adults and free for kids, so it’s a fun and low-cost activity.
Plus, there are WHALES!!! My FAVORITE ANIMALS!
Valentine’s Day at Descanso Gardens La Canada-Flintridge
Between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday, February 14th, you can visit the grounds and enjoy the scenery, plus hit the photo kiosk and watch some romantic Shakespeare performed by the California Shakespeare Ensemble.
Tickets are $9 for adults, $4 for kids 4-12 and you can get the details here.
It’s supposed to be beautiful out this weekend, so why not go with your kids and enjoy it?
Oscar Goes Outdoors! Santa Monica Mountains
It’s Sunday, February 15th, from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m., and it’s free and open to all. There will be plenty of pictures, presentations and insider stories on hand at the Santa Monica Visitors Center, behind the scenes info on Paramount Ranch and photos of movie sets from Oscar contenders.
